LED Calculator: Component Selection and Parameter Calculation
Side-by-Side Comparison of One or Two LEDs
The calculator models parameters for a single LED or compares two candidate items side by side under identical operating conditions: drive current, solder-point temperature Ts, LED count, and optics/driver losses.
Evaluate trade-offs: more 2835 vs. fewer 5050 packages, 3V vs. 6V configurations, matching target luminaire wattage, or finding lowest cost per delivered lumen.
Which Parameters Can Be Adjusted
Adjust the LED operating current, solder-point temperature Ts, component count, driver efficiency, and optics efficiency to calculate delivered luminaire flux with realistic loss modeling.
Inspect changes in flux, power, luminous efficacy, forward voltage, and total LED cost.
Where Calculation Data Originates
Curve dependencies extracted from datasheets feed the model: flux vs. current, forward voltage vs. current, and thermal derating curves.
What Is Calculated Deterministically
All final metrics are computed using deterministic formulas. AI is never used to guess flux, efficacy, power, or lumen cost.
AI assists only in the prior phase of digitizing datasheet curves; downstream modeling relies strictly on explicit formulas.
Which Metrics the Calculator Helps Compare
Compare candidates across flux, efficacy, power, forward voltage, drive current, price, cost per lumen, and total LED spend, as well as luminaire-level outputs accounting for optics and driver efficiency.
The temperature field specifies the LED solder-point temperature Ts. The correction is taken from the datasheet temperature curve without thermal recalculation. A component that looks better at binning current may lose its advantage at a different temperature, current, or luminaire layout.
Accuracy Boundaries and Manufacturer Data Disclaimer
Calculation outputs depend directly on verified datasheet curves. Without verified curves, calculations cannot run. Manufacturers provide data with defined tolerances; the service is not liable for manufacturer inaccuracies. Final ratings stated in the product documentation must always be confirmed through laboratory photometric measurements.
Where to Find Items, Pricing, and Stock
To discover items, verify pricing, and build a selection list, begin with LED Search. Then extract curves via Graph Reader, and compare candidates in the calculator.
FAQ
- Can I calculate a single LED instead of comparing two?
- Yes. The calculator works with a single item in Slot 1 as well as side-by-side comparisons.
- Why does the calculator require datasheet curves?
- Curves allow normalization to operating currents and temperatures beyond nominal binning points.
- Does AI calculate final values?
- No. Calculations use deterministic formulas without AI approximation.
- Which parameters can be compared?
- Flux, luminous efficacy, electrical power, forward voltage, price, lumen cost, and luminaire-level metrics.
- Where do I find candidate LEDs to compare?
- Use LED Search to find items and pricing, then use Graph Reader to extract datasheet curves.
